Could you explain what it means to reach the conduction band in terms of n-type semiconductors.
What I mean is : i know that the n-type semiconductors are doped with a group 5 atoms, so that the 4/5 electrons pair with the 4 valence electrons of the semiconductor atom. Hence, in order for current to flow, the unpaired electron moves to the donor level. This is where I'm stuck. What is the donor energy level? What about the conduction energy level? I'm unable to properly visualise this concept of energy levels in terms of n-type semiconductors. How does knocking out neighbouring electrons allow the electron to reach the conduction band?
Please reply asap!
Thankyou
