A forum set up for physics questions from students in the courses PHYS1121, 1131, 1221 and 1331 at the University of New South Wales. It is intended for questions that cannot readily be answered in class,
either because they fall outside the main syllabus and therefore would be distraction (however interesting) or for other reasons.
I was curious if anyone could provide some insight to the problem above?
Could you just use the conversation of energy principle [work energy theorem] here?
Or is there something that I am missing
P.S: not looking for solutions, I want to figure it out, but if someone could let me know if I am on the right track it would be appreciated
The video you linked has fairly detailed explanations. The problem is set up by collisions in classical physics, but it quickly becomes a couple of interesting problems in maths.
